Introduction

You are being asked to be in a research study. The decision to participate in this study does not influence access to this training. This form is designed to tell you everything you need to think about before you decide to consent (agree) to be in the study or not to be in the study. It is entirely your choice. If you decide to take part, you can change your mind later on and withdraw from the research study. You can skip any questions that you do not wish to answer.

Before making your decision:

  • Please carefully read this form or have it read to you
  • Please ask questions about anything that is not clear

By agreeing to this form you will not give up any legal rights.

Study Overview:

The purpose of this study is to understand how effective this training is in supporting educators to use the SEE Learning curriculum in the classroom.

Procedures

Up to 5000 educators will be asked to participate. Those who agree to participate will be asked to fill out a small set of surveys that will take about 5-10 minutes to complete. Throughout this orientation, educators will respond to various questions. This will take place for everyone as part of this educational program rather than research, but the responses from those who consent to have their data used for research will be the only ones used for research while the others will be used for program evaluation. After completion of the orientation, participants who agree to participate will be asked to provide feedback one month, six months, and one year from completion of this orientation. These feedback forms should take 5-10 minutes to complete.

By participating, you will be contributing to our understanding of how we can support educators in successfully using the SEE Learning curriculum. Participation may involve being asked questions about your thoughts and feelings on social and emotional learning, your personal feelings about education, and questions about your experiences of stressors relevant to your experiences as an educator. Your information is confidential. This means that your responses will not be shared directly with anyone outside of the research team.

Risks and Discomforts

There are minimal risks for educators participating in this study. Participant risks include discomfort when answering questions concerning sensitive topics. Break of confidentiality, while minimally likely, is a potential risk. We will take every precaution to minimize this risk.

Benefits

Participants will benefit directly from the study, through improvements made to the training experiences that will result directly from educator feedback. Participant feedback with also directly influence the development of future trainings by providing the research and development team with information regarding educator needs with regards to the use of the SEE Learning curriculum.

Confidentiality

Any information we collect will not be shared with anyone outside of the study team. Administrators and/or supervisors will not have direct access to any information that might be linked back to the educator directly. A study number rather than your name will be used on study records wherever possible. Your name and other facts that might point to you will not appear when we present this study or publish its results.

We will do everything we can to keep others from learning about your participation in the research.

Voluntary Participation and Withdrawal from the Study

You have the right to leave a study at any time without penalty. You may refuse to do any procedures you do not feel comfortable with, or answer any questions that you do not wish to answer. You also have the right to request that any information collected for this study not be used.
